NYE in NYC will always top the list of stand-out New Year’s Eve parties. Whether it’s counting down in Times Square or watching the fireworks soar above the skyline on a City Cruise, New York City smashes New Year’s Eve every time.Â
For a traditional NYC New Year’s Eve, head to Times Square for the Ball Drop. Ring in the big Midnight moment at New York’s most photographed intersection with the Times Square Ball’s final descent. Here, an explosion of confetti and high-octane cheers marks the New Year's 2026. Wrap up warm and get there early—you’ll need to secure your spot in the square by 11am at the latest, otherwise you’ll need a New Year’s Eve ticket to one of NYE Parties nearby.Â
Alternatively, side-step the crowds and secure a prime view of NYC’s finest NYE spectacle at a Ball Drop viewing party. The most sought-after tickets in town are for the Marriott Marquis Times Square New Year's and AMC NYE 2027 Party. You’ll soak up the heady atmosphere, catch the best Ball Drop selfie from one of the terraces, and toast your NYC New Year’s Eve 2027 with a glass of something sparkling before dancing the night away with a live DJ.Â
Where Times Square has the Ball Drop, the City waterways host the fireworks shows. And New York City sure knows how to put on a dazzling display. If navigating the crowds is not your thing, head offshore on an NYC cruise. This is by far the best way to admire a sky-full of spectacular pyrotechnics. What makes the view particularly special? The Statue of Liberty silhouetted against New York City’s shimmering NYE backdrop.

New Year's Eve in New York City: what to know
The Times Square Ball starts its 60-second drop at 11:59 PM on Thursday, December 31, 2026. Watching from the street is free but means hours outside with no restrooms or re-entry. A ticketed NYC party gives you a warm venue, an open bar and a midnight toast, some with a view of the ball.

Ask a questionThe ball starts its 60-second descent at 11:59 PM ET on Thursday, December 31, 2026, and lands at midnight. It's raised to the top of One Times Square, at Broadway and 43rd Street, at about 6 PM, when the celebration begins.
Several networks carry it live, with ABC's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" the best known. The Times Square Alliance also streams the whole night free and commercial-free at TimesSquareNYC.org from 6 PM ET. Many NYC parties show the countdown on screens.
The best place is a ticketed party with a live view of the ball, and you can choose your angle. For a view of the front of the ball, there's Marriott Marquis, Bar 54 at Hyatt Centric, Bowtie Bar, M Social, R Lounge, Olive Garden and Rosie O'Grady's. On the east side, there's Planet Hollywood and Chicken Guy. On the west side, there's Applebee's 42nd Street and AMC 42nd Street. Not every rooftop near Times Square can see the ball, so check the view details before you buy. See all parties with a live view of the ball drop.
As soon as you know your plans. Tickets for our NYC parties are priced dynamically, so the price goes up as each event sells, and it can more than double in the last weeks of December. The most popular parties, especially those with a view of the ball drop, sell out before December 31.
Tickets start at about $29 and go up to about $1,499 for VIP Times Square packages. Most include an open bar and a champagne toast; dinner, a view of the ball and premium drinks raise the price. Each event shows its starting price.
Beyond the ball drop, New Yorkers ring in the year at open-bar parties in bars and lounges, rooftop parties, New Year's Eve dinners, nightclubs and cruises. There are family-friendly events too, and Brooklyn has its own party scene.
Yes. We list 14 New Year's Eve cruises in New York this year, from $149 to $519. Most board between 8:00 and 9:30 PM and are out on the harbor at midnight, many with an open bar, food and a DJ. Fireworks and Statue of Liberty views vary by cruise. See NYC New Year's Eve cruises.
No. There are no public restrooms in the viewing areas, and if you leave your spot you can't get back in. A Times Square party includes restrooms, heat, food and drinks.
No. Alcohol isn't allowed in the viewing areas, and bags are checked at the entry points. Backpacks, large bags, umbrellas, chairs and coolers are also prohibited. For a champagne toast at midnight, book a party with an open bar.
The viewing areas open at 3 PM and the closest spots fill first, so many people line up in the early afternoon. Once an area is full, police send newcomers farther uptown. Plan to stand outside for nine hours or more; the average midnight temperature is about 34°F. Or skip the wait with a ticketed party steps from Times Square.
